Hypnotherapy

Stay relaxed & focused

What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is defined as a ‘relaxed, focussed state of concentration’. Most people experience hypnosis as a dreamy pleasant state, similar to the feelings we have just before falling asleep or immediately after waking or when day dreaming. It should be noted that hypnosis is NOT sleep but rather a special state in which the brain is more open and receptive to suggestion. A change in brain wave activity occurs and during this time the mind becomes more open to visualization and to sensory experience. This allows changes that occur on a deep subconscious level which may have a greater effect on your waking behaviour.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a client-centered, integrative therapy focused on finding solutions to a variety of medical and psychological issues. It utilizes hypnotic techniques to access the unconscious mind, allowing individuals to tap into their mental and physical resources. This approach has been found effective for a range of problems, including:

Stress and Anxiety: It helps manage conditions related to stress by promoting relaxation and developing coping strategies.

Performance Anxiety: Hypnotherapy aids individuals in overcoming anxiety associated with performance situations, such as public speaking or competitive sports.

Self-Esteem Issues: It works on enhancing self-belief and confidence levels.

Habits and Addictions: The therapy assists in modifying negative behaviours, including quitting smoking and managing various addictions.

Weight Control: It supports efforts related to weight loss by addressing underlying psychological factors.

Phobias: Hypnotherapy can help individuals confront and overcome irrational fears.

Sleep Problems: It is beneficial for improving sleep quality by tackling issues related to insomnia or disrupted sleep patterns.

Managing Illness and Pain: This therapy offers coping strategies for those dealing with chronic pain or illness.

Through guided sessions, hypnotherapy combines techniques from diverse therapeutic approaches, such as psychodynamic, behavioural, and cognitive-behavioural methods. This enables clients to effect lasting changes and develop effective coping mechanisms, ultimately leading to improved well-being.

What Happens In A Session?

In a session with a hypnotherapist, you can expect it to last about an hour. Here’s a general outline of what happens:

1. Initial Discussion: You will either sit or lie down comfortably while the therapist discusses what you hope to achieve during the session. This may include specific goals, such as reducing anxiety, breaking a habit, or improving sleep.

2.  Relaxation Process: The therapist will guide you through a relaxation process. This often includes deep breathing exercises and progressive muscle relaxation to help you become completely comfortable.

3. Induction: Once you're relaxed, the therapist will lead you into a deeper state of relaxation. It's important to note that you're fully aware of your surroundings and can choose to open your eyes or end the session at any time.

4. Suggestion Phase: In this relaxed state, the therapist will provide specific suggestions tailored to your goals. For instance, they might suggest that the taste and smell of cigarettes become unappealing or that you remain calm in crowded places.

5. Conclusion: After the session, the therapist will guide you back to a normal state of awareness. They may discuss the experience with you and provide aftercare instructions or suggestions for future sessions.

Hypnotherapy is generally safe, but it’s not recommended for individuals with certain mental health issues, including epilepsy or severe depression. Always consult with a doctor if you have concerns about whether hypnotherapy is suitable for you.
